I am married, and have a son and a dog. My husband, Todd, is a retired Air Force Pilot who now works as an instructor pilot at Little Rock Air Force Base. Tyler is 23, graduated from Hendrix College where he played on their lacrosse team, and is now working on his masters degree online with the University of Arizona.. Our dog is named Tuukka (after the hockey player, Tuukka Rask). Odd for this area, but we are a hockey and lacrosse family - Tyler plays both sports, Todd is a Lacrosse coach at Catholic High and a hockey ref. I just like to watch.
We have lived in Little Rock for 1 1 years. While Todd served in the Air Force, we moved frequently, and our son has lived in 10 homes in 5 states and attended 9 different schools pre-k through 12th grade! This, plus my husband being away from home an average of 9 months per year, resulted in me being a stay-home-Mom for most of our son’s early life.
This will be my sixth year teaching at Fulbright (but thirteenth year teaching). I have a Bachelor’s Degree from Hardin-Simmons University in English and Old Testament Studies, a Master of Arts in Teaching from UCA, and am currently taking SPED course at UCA for a Resource Endorsement. Should complete that in December (fingers crossed).
I taught preschool in Houston, Texas for 5 years before becoming a licensed nurse, and then I worked with chronically and terminally ill children for 5 years before we moved to California. Tyler was 6 months old and we didn't know anyone there, so I stayed home with him in California and in Mississippi, and when we moved to Little Rock for the first time, back in 2003-2005, I worked part-time as a nurse at the school Tyler attended. We moved to Rhode Island, and I once again became a full-time Mom and a “do-it-yourselfer,” working on the old home we purchased. When Todd retired from the Air Force, he took a job at the LRAF base in the simulator. I started substituting K-8 as I waited for a nursing refresher course. I realized how much I loved being back in the classroom and I accepted a job the following year as a Kindergarten aide. I started night and weekend classes at UCA to earn a Masters of Arts in Teaching while continuing to work as an aide. I moved to a teaching position in a Pre-K 4 classroom the next year, and then to teaching special needs Pre-K the year after. UCA assigned me to an internship at Fulbright in third grade, and I fell in love with the families and the staff, knowing immediately this is where I wanted to be. I was overjoyed when offered a position here, and am so happy to be a part of the Fulbright team! I have taught both Kindergarten and Second grade here at Fulbright, and last year II moved into Resource and love it.
I believe in providing structure and routines to establish an environment where the children feel safe enough to take risks. I work hard to establish a kind and respectful classroom community. I am also data driven - the more I know about my students the more I can differentiate and individualize instruction. Please know that my heart is in the classroom. I am invested in my students and our school. Please, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am here for you and your child.
